The cuban cigars were often given as diplomatic gifts and they gradually developed a cult status. The cigar brand was released commercially for sale to the public in 1982 with three cuban cigar vitolas. Three more cohina cigars were added in 1989. These make up the Linea Clasica cigars range. Thus, Diplomáticos Cuban cigars were born. FONSECA CIGARSDon Francisco E. Fonseca was a man who knew appearance mattered just as much as quality in regards cigars. With some money and an idea, he set out in and started his own cigar factory in 1892, introducing his self-titled cigar marque, the Fonseca Cuban cigars in 1907. What sets a Fonseca cigar apart from the rest of cigars is its attention to detail. Each Fonseca cuban cigar is manufactured to a precise balance between a gracious smoke and a beautiful cigar; beauty accentuated by employing new and innovative ways to dress a cigar including Fonseca’s cigar trademark Japanese tissue paper wrap. H.UPMANN CIGARSTwo German brothers had a very profitable banking business, and part of their practice was to give valued clients a premier cigar. The brothers, August and Herman Upmann, were themselves first-class aficionados, and opted to relocate their business to Havanna, Cuba. There, in 1844 the brothers acquired a private cigar factory to produce the cigars for their banking clients; they dubbed it the H. Upmann Cuban Cigars Factory (now the esteemed José Martí Factory). HOYO DE MONTERREY CIGARSIn 1831 a young man, Don José Gener y Bater, emigrated to Cuba from Spain. Don José Gener, who’s passion and dedication to the lush Cuban tobacco fields had created one of the finest tasting and best cigars, took his blend and registered the name Hoyo de Monterrey cuban cigars in 1865. JOSE L. PIEDRA CIGARSThe Piedra family emigrated to Cuba from Spain in the late 1800s with an eye on staking their claim in the tobacco industry. JUAN LOPEZ CIGARSJuan Lopez Diaz was an aspiring young entrepreneur in the 1870s who sought to make his fortune in the Cuban tobacco industry. His ideas inspired the creation of several cigar brands: La Veneciana cuban cigars, El Marquez de Caixas cuban cigars, La Mandolita cuban cigars, Transcontinental cuban cigars and, of course, his self-titled line of Juan Lopez Cuban cigars. Each cuban cigar was considered a premier, first-class cigar in its own right, but none made such a splash as the Juan Lopez cigar marque. LA GLORIA CUBANA CIGARSAlready an established Cuban tobacco business mogul, the Sociedad Cabañas y Castro created a blend of cigar to encapsulate the full Glory of Cuba. Here is where the name and the premier Cuban cigar, La Gloria Cubana, were birthed in 1885. The cigars were exceptional, but the cigar brand remained relatively obscure for twenty years when in 1905 José F. Rocha (founder of Bolivar) purchased the cigar marque in the effort of expanding his tobacco empire. Still, the prestige of La Gloria Cubana cuban cigars would not come until some years later. Once under the firm’s direction, the decision was made to release a new line of vitolas dubbed the H. Upmann Montecristo Selection. To the firm’s surprise, rather than stimulating further appreciation of the fine H. Upmann cigar marque, demand and popularity for the H. Upmann Montecristo Selection created a market enough for this small line of vitolas to survive on its own. PARTAGAS CIGARSThe Spaniard Don Jaime Partagás Ravelo worked in the Cuban tobacco business for years before establishing his own cuban cigar factory, Real Fábricas de Tabaco Partagás in 1845.
