Don Francisco E. Fonseca was a man who knew appearance mattered just as much as quality. With some money and an idea, he set out in and started his own cigar factory in 1892, introducing his self-titled marque, the
Fonseca Cuban cigars in 1907. What sets a Fonseca cigar apart from the rest is its attention to detail. After the passing of Don Francisco in 1930, control of the factory and the full line of
cigars went to his wife, Doña Teresa Boetticher, who took the reigns and decided to merge the Fonseca factory with another major cigar manufacturer to form Castañeda, Montero, Fonseca SA.
Specifically directed towards the Spanish and Canadian markets, a Fonseca cigar is relatively mild and somewhat cheaper than its competition. In this case, cheaper price doesn't mean a less-quality smoke; the Fonseca cigar is exquisitely luxurious in its own rights.
