Don Francisco E. Fonseca was a man who knew appearance mattered just as much as quality. With some money and an idea, he set out in and started his own cigar factory in 1892, introducing his self-titled marque, the Fonseca Cuban cigars in 1907. What sets a Fonseca cigar apart from the rest is its attention to detail. Each Fonseca is manufactured to a precise balance between a gracious smoke and a beautiful cigar; beauty accentuated by employing new and innovative ways to dress a cigar including Fonseca's trademark Japanese tissue paper wrap.

After the passing of Don Francisco in 1930, control of the factory and the full line of cigars went to his wife, Doña Teresa Boetticher, who took the reigns and decided to merge the Fonseca factory with another major cigar manufacturer to form Castañeda, Montero, Fonseca SA.

Specifically directed towards the Spanish and Canadian markets, a Fonseca cigar is relatively mild and somewhat cheaper than its competition. In this case, cheaper price doesn't mean a less-quality smoke; the Fonseca cigar is exquisitely luxurious in its own rights. More experienced smokers have come to enjoy the fine flavors of a Fonseca cigar after a light meal to accentuate the flavors of their food; novice smokers are often introduced to wide world of cuban cigars with a mild, tasty Fonseca cigar.

Today all Fonseca cigars are made in the Lázaro Peña factory in Havana. Don Fonseca's traditions live on in each hand made Fonseca cigar, which are still constructed to precise perfection and adorned with innovative dressings to create a cigar as beautiful as it smokes.
