La Gloria Cubana Cuban Cigars

Already an established Cuban tobacco business mogul, the Sociedad Cabañas y Castro created a blend of cigar to encapsulate the full “Glory of Cuba”. Here is where the name and the premier Cuban cigar, La Gloria Cubana, were birthed in 1885. The cigars were exceptional, but the brand remained relatively obscure for twenty years when in 1905 José F. Rocha (founder of Bolívar) purchased the marque in the effort of expanding his tobacco empire. Still, the prestige of La Gloria Cubana cuban cigars would not come until some years later.

Following Rocha's death in 1954, the Cifuentes family (also well established in the tobacco business) acquired both the Bolívar and La Gloria Cubana marques. Of course Bolívar came with an immense following, but the Cifuentes were unsure what to do with La Gloria Cubana. The cigars were elegant, delicious and well deserving of a spot in the market, but at the time still relatively unkown. The Cifuentes sought out on an aggressive campaign, and with help from a friend working with the Romeo y Julieto label, promotion for the brand exploded. Not long after purchasing the marquee, the Cifuentes had successfully turned La Gloria Cubana into a popularly exported brand of cuban cigars.

After the revolution, production of these coveted cigars all but ceased... lucky for aficionados, it was miraculously resurrected in 1965 though the factory no longer produces a great volume of these rare delicacies. As such, the elegant and only handmade La Gloria Cubana has become a highly coveted brand.
