The Piedra family emigrated to Cuba from Spain in the late 1800s with an eye on staking their claim in the tobacco industry. Soon after moving to the lush tobacco fields of Cuba two of the brothers, Vincente and José Lamadrid Piedra, began developing a new blend of Cuban cigars. The results of their toils were the first José L. Piedra cuban cigars, named after one of its founders. The two brothers quickly adapted the blend to several vitolas, and soon a full range of completely hand-rolled José L. Piedra Cuban cigars were released.

The Piedra family had succeeded in filling a precious niche in the cuban cigars community, a full-flavor Cuban at a very affordable price, and it didn't take long for José L. Piedras to grow in popularity. Unfortunately, after the embargo in Cuba the brand's popularity dwindled, and was in danger of completely disappearing... but cherished brands will never die, and José L. Piedra was resurrected again in 1996.

Today the José L. Piedra factory lies in Santa Clara, Cuba and still manufactures the original blend conceived by its founders. José L. Piedra cigars are notorious for their very strong tobacco flavor and equally simple packaging... often plain cellophane wrapping or a cardboard container.

With cigars price is certainly a reflection of quality, so José L. Piedra cigars are not going to be as refined as some of their Cuban cousins, but regardless, here is a genuine Cuban cigar at an incredibly competitive price.
